Rio Tinto’s HiSmelt clarified water tank required a full clean. Silt from iron ore and other fines had built up in the water tank over several years. The volume of built-up solids was in excess of 500 m2.
Client required return of their clarified water tank to clean state in critical time frame. Solids in the tank were captured and contained by agitating into a solution using an specialised high pressure water cannon. Slurry was then pumped into dewatering tubes using a specialised heavy duty hydraulic submersible slurry pump. Dewatering tubes enable high density slurry to be separated. Water escapes from the tubes while capturing the solids within.
NPE provided a modular solution with specialised personnel on time and on budget. As was NPE’s deliberate strategy, the project was completed safely and ahead of schedule. Services provided include scope, design, install, operate and demobilise.
