Pipeline Dewatering Specialists: Wellpoint Installation for Belmont Infrastructure Project

As part of a 6km pipeline installation project in Belmont, our client successfully completed almost the entire pipeline without requiring dewatering. However, groundwater management became necessary for the final 300 metres of installation, where wellpoint dewatering was identified as the most effective solution.
The project presented several logistical challenges. The work area was extremely constrained, located alongside a private roadway servicing an active wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and an adjoining desalination plant currently under construction. During the day, the site experienced constant activity, including construction deliveries, site traffic, and staff movements, making access difficult and increasing the potential for disruptions.
To minimise impacts on ongoing operations and ensure the pipeline installation remained on schedule, the wellpoint installation was carefully planned and completed during night shifts. This approach allowed works to be undertaken safely and efficiently while avoiding interruptions to daytime site activities and critical deliveries.
The wellpoints were installed using a drill rig in predominantly sandy ground conditions, providing an effective dewatering solution for the challenging section of the pipeline. Despite the tight working environment and restricted access, the installation was completed successfully, enabling excavation and pipe installation works to proceed without delay.
This project highlights the importance of flexible planning and tailored dewatering solutions, particularly on complex infrastructure sites where operational constraints and limited space demand a carefully managed approach.
