Gas Pipeline Pigging Pump Packages, SA
NPE Supply operated comprehensive pigging pump packages across three different locations to ensure effective management and maintenance of gas pipeline systems. The project focused on the critical assessment of the Port Pirie lateral, a buried 6-inch diameter high-pressure gas pipeline extending 73km from Whyte Yarcowie to Bungama.
Given the challenges presented by the pipeline being buried, the project utilised an ‘intelligent pig’ to conduct ultrasonic in-line inspection technology for effective SCC and anomaly detection.
The deployment of this technology necessitated temporarily taking the pipeline out of service and introducing a liquid couplant for optimal performance. The project included:
1. Successfully completed the UT ILI of the entire pluggable section of the Port Pirie lateral pipeline, ensuring comprehensive data collection.
2. Minimising disruptions and impacts on gas supply to downstream users, especially major industrial customers, during the required outage.
3. Controlling costs associated with the ILI operation while prioritising adherence to the established timeframe and quality standards.
To ensure the success of this project, a team of expert NPE piping fitters were deployed, offering 24/7 maintenance and management alongside rigorous safety and quality control measures, including pump witness testing, daily records, and compliance with certification requirements. For more information, contact Sachin Hulle Sachine.hulle@nationalpump.com.au
