PFAS Treatment Perth, WA
The treatment process begins with a dewatering system that extracts groundwater for processing. The influent is conveyed through the plant, where it undergoes a series of steps to reduce soluble metals and trace levels of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS).
Water first passes through the Chemical Dosing Unit, where selected chemicals and coagulants are added to adjust pH and alkalinity. This creates optimal conditions for the breakdown of compounds and the formation of insoluble solids through chemical reactions.
Flocculants are then introduced to bind fine particles into larger, denser floc, enhancing the clarification process. The resulting sludge is separated in a clarifier and discharged automatically via a motorised dump valve, controlled by a recycling timer.
The clarified water flows by gravity into a primary holding tank, where chlorine is dosed to oxidise organic contaminants.
From there, the water is pumped through a Metals Removal Module (MRM) using a centrifugal pump. Inside the MRM vessels, specialised filtration media oxidise and remove heavy metals effectively.
The filtered water is then transferred to a secondary holding tank, followed by a final polishing stage through Granulated Activated Carbon (GAC) filters. These filters are designed to meet critical Empty Bed Contact Time (EBCT) requirements, ensuring effective adsorption of PFAS to meet safe discharge standards into stormwater systems.
