GEMCO Haul Road Civil Works

Project Spotlight – Angurugu Bridge Rebuild Groote Eylandt
NPE was proud to support SEE Civil and South32 (GEMCO) on the critical Northern Haul Road Bridge Rebuild over Angurugu Creek, following the destruction caused by Tropical Cyclone Megan in March 2024.
As part of the recovery effort, restoring this key piece of infrastructure was essential for maintaining mining operations. NPE was tasked with delivering a wellpoint dewatering solution within the footprint of the pre-installed sheet piling; sheet piling that, in some locations, formed the only barrier between the site and Angurugu Creek's resident crocodiles.
Coordinating a skilled team of NPE technicians, we installed approximately 140 spears across the excavation, successfully dewatering up to 6 million litres per week.
Our onsite technicians managed the system throughout, ensuring uninterrupted excavation and enabling the rebuild of bridge foundations and culverts to meet the project’s strict schedule, timed carefully ahead of the looming wet season.
This project highlights NPE’s technical capability and agility in supporting complex infrastructure delivery in challenging environments. We’re proud of the team’s contribution and their commitment to delivering safe and effective outcomes under pressure.
