NPE installed one CDU, a dosing unit where flocculant, coagulant and pH adjustments were added to the treatment process. The unit also monitored the pH, turbidity and flow meter. Clarifiers were then added, where suspended and precipitated solids were removed for further filtration. The final step was the Metals Removal Module (MRM) for oxidation and filtration to remove elevated metal concentrations. 

A higher concentration of heavy metals in the groundwater, especially aluminium, zinc and copper, made achieving the 95% marine water trigger value to discharge a challenge. It was overcome by choosing the most suitable chemical compositions to treat the water, followed by activation and cleaning of MRM media to ensure maximum media efficiency.
