Drilling and pumping pontoon

NPE designed and supplied an on-water geotechnical drilling program for a minesite tailings pit located at a remote QLD mine site.

Water Management - Project Management

Drilling was required to determine achievable base line densities and tailings slumping capabilities and so the solution had to reach a max depth of 160m for this tailing pond project.
The aim of the trial was to determine best methodology for the re-mining and re-depositing of the existing tailings to be transferred 2.5kms to the new tailings storage facility (TSF) location.

NPE designed, assembled and commissioned a 12m x 10m pontoon barge arrangement to ensure a safe, workable platform for the drilling rig. The pontoon was also support for electric submersible slurry pumps, gantry, pipework with associated fittings and power supply and operating cabin.
The FNQ project was a success and achieved the client’s objectives.
