National Pump & Energy was contracted for works for one of South Australia’s largest gas providers to manage flooding, squeeze testing and pigging sections of their extensive pipeline.
NPE was contracted to provide fully monitored pumping packages, with the scope of works including the assembly, installation and testing of the following units;
• 2 x 4” Transfer pumps
• 2 x ZONE II DNV, 4” plunger Triplex pumps
• 2 x 6” plunger triplex Pumps
• Fuel tanks
• 2” & 3” FIG 1502 Iron container
• 2 x NPE Duplex Basket filter
• 4 x KSB 125/5 high pressure multistage centrifugal pumps, paired with Cummins QSK23 engines
• 30 KL water storage tanks
• 2 x Nitrogen Filled pulsation dampeners.
Covering assembly, installation and commissioning of NPE assets at three separate pump station locations – NPE also provided 12 experienced personnel to facilitate 24-hour operations.
NPE provided pumps for flooding the main pipeline, squeeze testing the main pipeline and then pigging services.
NPE worked with German pig provider ROSEN to deliver the successful pipeline pigging services.
In pipelines, pigging is the practice of using pipeline inspection gauges, devices generally referred to as pigs (pipeline inspection gauges) or scrapers, to perform various maintenance operations. This pipeline maintenance is done without stopping pipeline flow.
NPE Oil and Gas project manager Sachin Hulle said this was a complicated project with many moving parts.
“Works were coordinated across three different locations,” Mr Hulle said.
“One of the locations had the potential for gas to be present so Zone II units were utilised in this area. NPE completed the project in a timely manner, with maximum safety for all personnel.”
The SA client also requested NPE’s expertise for complete real-time reporting from the outlying pumping stations.
