As we continue to grow our operations, there is an exciting opportunity to join the Welshpool team as a Junior Environmental Scientist. This is a full-time opportunity, for somebody wanting to learn and grow their knowledge with an industry leading company.

Position Description

Key Accountabilities

  • Undertakes soil and water field work independently. Field work may include, but is not limited to:
    − Groundwater sampling
    − Dewatering discharge sampling
    − Completing soil watching briefs
    − Various soil sampling techniques
    − Ground gas sampling
    − Various ground gas sampling techniques
    − Indoor air quality sampling
    − Various air quality sampling
  • Competently prepare water, soil and air samples for laboratory analysis
  • Provide the project manager assistance with daily project operational processes and requirements
  • Supervise 1-2 small projects to ensure all daily operational processes and requirements are satisfactorily met
  • Liaising with the project manager on all site issues
  • Ongoing maintenance of all monitoring and measurement equipment used in the course of sample collection and processing
  • Oversee drilling works undertaken by drilling contractor
  • Undertake site inspections with the Project Manager to identify issues prior to mobilisation to site
  • Interpret and analyse field and laboratory results
  • Liaise with clients to ensure issues are dealt with in a timely manner
  • Assist the Project Manager to ensure project expenses are within project budget, where appropriate
  • Develop and draft basic scientific reports and management plans

Skills/ Selection Criteria (qualifications & experience)

Essential

  • Minimum Bachelors Degree (or working towards) in an applied Science and or relevant field
  • Knowledge of water sampling and lab procedures to ensure QA requirements are maintained
  • Ability to confidently communicate to a diverse range of customers and colleagues and deliver exceptional customer service to champion the NPE brand
  • Ability to work autonomously and show initiative
  • High attention to detail, written/verbal communication skills and sound report writing skills
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (Manual preferred)

Other requirements

  • Experience in the Mining & Construction Industry
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Construction Induction
  • Has an intermediate understanding of the relevant environmental and associated legislation in WA
