Emergency Pit Dewatering

You can’t plan ahead for an emergency, but when the flood waters come in, you need to call the pump professionals, who can quickly and safely get the water out and get you back to business.

That’s exactly what happened to Rio Tinto when the Argyle Diamond Mine in the Kimberley, Western Australia had unexpected floodwater entry into the underground system. NPE delivered emergency pit dewatering services.

Our requirement was simple, stop the threatened mine closure due to water entry into the underground system. Pump 1,000lt/sec through four stage system. Three 600mm lines with three pontoon units and three land based pump stations.

Services provided in conjunction with this emergency mine dewatering project include: engineering, design, installation, commissioning and complete project management.

In addition to the above equipment, we provided:

  • Onsite dewatering personal
  • Associated hoses, adaptors and manifolds
  • Purpose designed and built pontoon skid for install and demob
  • Purpose designed and built rock fall protection guarding
  • Full telemetry control

Requirements

Due to unexpected flooding, Rio Tinto were faced with an emergency mine closure of the Argyle Diamond Mine, due to water entry into the underground system. NPE were called in to provide emergency dewatering services.

  • Pumps powered by 780hp diesel engines
  • 20,000lt bunded fuel tanks
  • 4,500lt bunded diesel fuel tanks
